DISHing With Matt Martin PDF Print E-mail
Written by Donald D'Haene

Matt_Martin_minister_6_matt_cross_around_neckMatt Martin has always loved performing for an audience. In elementary school he won his school district’s public speaking contest. Post-secondary, he studied Television Broadcasting. Over the past 20 years, he has acted in many plays and musicals with such local theatre companies as Theatre Nemesis, Ausable Theatre, London Community Players, Musical Theatre Productions, and Port Stanley Festival Theatre. He has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Western Ontario Drama League) and Best Actor (Brickenden Awards).

Martin’s performing roots, however, began at the age of 6, when he first impersonated Elvis Presley. In 1996, he won a local competition and performed with Orchestra London. This past July, the world's largest Elvis Festival, The Collingwood Elvis Festival, attracted hundreds of tribute artists competing from all over the world where Martin won first place in his division, a cash prize and the title “Grand Champion Non-professional Concert Years.”

DISHing With Bill Hill, Kathy Quayle and Playwright John Boc PDF Print E-mail
Written by Donald D'Haene

circus_bill_2How the Circus Vanished, a play about mental health, took a bite out of stigma in 2003, and now it wants to take a bite of The Big Apple.

The play, although written by John Boc in the summer of 1978, surfaced for the first time as a one-act play performed in the 2002 London One Act Festival. It was fortunate enough to have been granted three awards: including Best Original Script, Best Actor and Best Production.

Boc is a local playwright and father, and also happens to be an outpatient of Regional Mental Health Care – London. Boc’s ten-year-old daughter, Morgan, who has an eye for talent, made the 2002 production possible.

DISHing With Felipe Gomes PDF Print E-mail

felipe_gomes_2_photo_by_Michael_KennedyFelipe Gomes is owner of Aroma Mediterranean Restaurant & Wine Cellar Adega Lounge.

Marrying old world charm with high tech, Aroma offers London diners a unique culinary experience, as well as a beautiful courtyard and entertainment.

Gomes’ newest addition to Aroma is an 18th century inspired wine cellar. He discovered a 600 square foot space that had not been used for over 50 years. Below the drywall and plaster, the strong yellow brick and solid walnut beams inspired his creativity. Presently, this rustic space houses 1000 bottles of wine, some underfoot in a built-in glass display case, and wine barrels and antique pieces from Middle Eastern cultures, where the wine culture began. This is an educational as well as culinary experience, as vintages from every wine producing nation are featured.
